What Came Before.

It’s well-known that Dita Von Teese takes her inspiration from past stars of burlesque and pin-ups for both her everyday fashion and her burlesque shows. I came across this picture of Bettie Page (below) and straight away thought of the dressing gown worn by Dita in her “Lazy” act she did for the Crazy Horse; of course Dita’s looks a little more decadent. I don’t think the similarity is a coincidence, Dita puts a lot of work into the planning of her stage shows and her discovery of Bettie was something that kick started her career. It’s nice to get a peek of where ideas come from, creativity has some logic. You can never be 100% original and thats something that so many people get hung up on trying to achieve. Sometimes you just have to embrace what came before and apply it in your own way to make it unique.
